Deciding What You Want
There are a number of important things to consider when you're deciding what sort of wedding photographs you want, so to help you out we've put together a few hints to set you on your way to wedding photography heaven.
- Firstly, and most importantly, you must decide which aspects of your wedding day you want the photographer to capture on film. Do you want pictures of the bride getting ready and departing for the church? Do you want photos of the ceremony itself, and as you probably will, how many? Would you like photos to be taken of the bride and groom at a separate location, maybe a park or flower garden that is special to you both?
- You must also consider whether you want the photographer to go to the reception and take pictures of the cake cutting and the table speeches, and whether you want pictures taken in the honeymoon suite of the hotel where you will be spending your first night as a married couple.
-
In addition, will you want the photographer to be present at the evening reception to take pictures of the first dance? This is an once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity that many people like to take advantage of. You may also want the wedding photographer to get shots of friends and family enjoying the party.
- Once you've decided which aspects of the day will be photographed, you must decide whether you want black and white or colour photographs, and which size you'd like them to be. Some couples like to have a photo album of around 40 photographs from the day and then one of two large prints that can be framed and put on their wall at home. You will be able to choose which ones you want enlarging after all the photographs have been processed.
- In addition, you should consider whether you want parent albums, which usually contain around 15 to 20 photographs, preparing for the parents of the bride and groom. You may also want to ask the bridesmaids and groomsmen whether they will want copies of certain photographs as a souvenir of their role on the day.
